What happens if my crypto payment invoice expires?

If your CoinGate Gift Cards crypto invoice expires, your order may not complete automatically. Here's what happens and how to recover your payment.

Updated today

In short

  • Each crypto payment invoice on CoinGate Gift Cards has a time limit - if it expires before your payment is confirmed on the blockchain, your order will not complete automatically.

  • If you already sent crypto before the invoice expired, do not send another payment - contact our support team with your transaction ID (TXID) and order number.

  • If you did not send any crypto before the invoice expired, simply start a new order and complete payment on the new invoice.

Common causes and fixes

Invoice expired and you haven't sent any crypto yet

Why this happens: Crypto invoices expire after a set time to protect against price fluctuations in the exchange rate between your crypto and the gift card's fiat value.

How to fix it:

  1. Go back to the CoinGate Gift Cards website and add the same item to your cart.

  2. Proceed to checkout and choose your preferred crypto payment method.

  3. A new invoice will be generated with a fresh expiry timer - complete the payment promptly.

Invoice expired but you already sent the crypto

Why this happens: Your transaction may have been broadcast to the blockchain but not confirmed in time - especially common with low-fee transactions during network congestion.

How to fix it:

  1. Do not create a new order or send another payment - this will not help and may complicate recovery.

  2. Find your transaction ID (TXID) in your wallet's transaction history.

  3. Contact CoinGate Gift Cards support and provide: your TXID, your original order number, and the amount sent.

  4. Our team will verify the on-chain payment and manually process your order once it confirms.

You refreshed the page and lost the invoice link

Why this happens: If you closed or refreshed the payment page, you may lose access to the invoice even if it has not yet expired.

How to fix it:

  1. Check your email - a payment confirmation or invoice link is usually sent when you place an order.

  2. If you cannot find the invoice and have not sent any crypto, simply place a new order.

  3. If you already sent crypto, contact support with your wallet's TXID.

The payment was sent from an exchange and arrived after expiry

Why this happens: Exchanges often batch withdrawals every few hours, meaning your crypto may leave the exchange long after you initiated the withdrawal - well past the invoice expiry.

How to fix it:

  1. Locate the TXID from your exchange withdrawal history.

  2. Contact CoinGate Gift Cards support with the TXID and your order number.

  3. For future orders, send from a self-custody wallet to avoid exchange processing delays.

Important: Never send a second payment to the same invoice address after expiry. The address may no longer be monitored and funds sent to it could be difficult to recover.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a CoinGate crypto invoice stay valid?

CoinGate crypto payment invoices are typically valid for 15-20 minutes from the time they are generated. You can see the countdown timer on the invoice page itself.

Can I get a refund if my crypto invoice expired?

If you sent crypto and it confirmed on the blockchain after the invoice expired, our support team will process your order rather than issue a refund. If the transaction was never confirmed, the crypto remains in your wallet.

What is a transaction ID (TXID) and where do I find it?

A TXID is a unique identifier for your crypto transaction on the blockchain. You can find it in your wallet's transaction history - it looks like a long string of letters and numbers.

Will I lose my money if the invoice expired and I already sent crypto?

No - if your transaction confirmed on the blockchain, the funds are not lost. Contact our support team with your TXID and we will manually process your order.

How do I avoid invoice expiry when paying with crypto?

Have your wallet ready before starting checkout, use a self-custody wallet instead of an exchange, and choose a sufficient transaction fee so the payment confirms quickly.
