How do I enter a gift card code that contains spaces or dashes?

If your gift card code has spaces or dashes, here is exactly how to enter it correctly so it redeems without errors.

Updated today

In short

  • Spaces and dashes in a gift card code are just formatting - they are not part of the actual code you need to enter.

  • Most redemption fields accept the code with or without spaces and dashes, but if in doubt, remove them before entering.

  • Always copy and paste from your email rather than typing the code manually to avoid errors.

Don't worry - a code that looks like XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX or XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX is completely normal. The dashes and spaces are there to make it easier to read, not because they need to be entered.

How to enter a code with spaces or dashes - step by step

Step 1 - Copy the code from your email

Open your CoinGate Gift Cards delivery email and find your gift card code. Select the full code including any dashes or spaces, and copy it.

Step 2 - Paste it into the redemption field

Go to the brand's official redemption page. Click into the code entry field and paste the code. Most platforms will automatically strip the spaces and dashes for you.

Step 3 - If the field doesn't accept it, remove the spaces and dashes

Some older redemption forms don't handle formatting automatically. If you see an error, delete the pasted code, then manually remove all spaces and dashes before entering it again. For example: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX instead of XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.

Step 4 - Check for a PIN or activation number field

Some gift cards have a separate PIN or activation code in addition to the main code. If the redemption page shows two input fields, make sure you are entering the right value in each one. Your email will show which is which.

Step 5 - Submit and verify

Click redeem or submit. If the code is accepted, you will see a confirmation message or your balance will be updated. If you still see an error, contact CoinGate Gift Cards support with a screenshot.

Frequently asked questions

Do I include the dashes when entering my gift card code?

Usually you do not need to - dashes are formatting only. Paste the code as-is and the redemption platform will handle it. If you get an error, try removing all dashes and spaces and enter the digits only.

My code has a dash in the middle - is this a different code type?

No, the dash is just a visual separator to make the code easier to read. It's the same code - just remove the dash if the redemption field does not accept it.

What if the redemption field only accepts a certain number of characters?

Count the actual alphanumeric characters in your code (ignoring spaces and dashes). If the field limit matches, enter only the code without any formatting. If the character count doesn't match, contact CoinGate Gift Cards support - the code may have been delivered incorrectly.

Can spaces in the code cause a "code not found" error?

Yes, sometimes pasting a code with a trailing space or leading space will cause an error. After pasting, make sure the cursor shows no extra space at the beginning or end of the field before submitting.

I removed the dashes but the code still won't work - what now?

Make sure you are on the correct brand redemption page and that the code region matches your account region. If both look correct, contact CoinGate Gift Cards support with your order number and a screenshot of the error.
